If You Were There…

I have chosen the blog format to provide an easy way for people to share their responses to the photographs. I especially hope that anyone who was there will contribute stories about themselves and their friends. What was the life like for you and your friends? What came after? How do you view the scene in retrospect? Did being there impact your life? (Someone who was there wrote to me recently that he couldn’t decide whether being on the Avenue was the best time in his life, or the worst.) Having spent as much time "on the Ave" as anyone, I know very well that the stories will run the gamut: comic, strange, inspiring, sad, dark. A few will be harrowing. It is worthwhile that all be told and I hope that over time this blog will grow into a rich collaborative history.
